Tribe Women Lead after First Day of Pod Meet

FAIRFAX, VA - After a tough opening stretch to the season, the William and Mary women's swimming and diving team found themselves in a more familiar setting Friday night, leading both match-ups at the Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet. The Tribe leads the Drexel Dragons, 137-48, and is in front of the host Patriots of George Mason, 113-73.

W&M got the ball rolling early, as the 200 free relay team of Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va.), Lindsay Guers (Orwigsburg, Pa.), Emily Burns (Snellville, Ga.), and Marina Falcone (Potomac, Md.) sped to victory over both opponents with a time of 1:37.26. Their performance ranks fourth all-time at W&M. Falcone also picked up a pair of individual wins in the 200 free, timing 1:54.61. In the same race, Guers, who finished second, improved her best time at W&M to 1:54.72, seventh in school history.

Radloff continued the winning ways, sweeping the 100 back in 58.23. Fellow sophomore Suzanne Figuers (Cary, N.C.) won two in the 100 breast with her time of 1:08.08, and Laura Herrmann (Fairfax Stations, Va.) won the 200 fly against Drexel in 2:10.49.

Radloff returned in the 50 free with two victories with a time of 23.74, before giving way to Courtney Alles (Manassas Park, Va.) who won two in the 400 IM, timing 4:35.44. The 400 medley relay team of Meredith David (Somerdale, N.J.), Rebecca Brofft (Fairfax, Va.), Erin Welshofer (Charlotte, N.C.), and Falcone closed out the evening with a pair of wins, timing 4:02.29.

The Pod Meet continues tomorrow with action beginning at 1:30 p.m.
