Nick Duda Leads Tribe with Four Victories on First Night of CAA Pod Meet

FAIRFAX, VA - Fueled by victories in six of 10 events Friday night, the William and Mary men's swimming and diving team roared out to a 110-72 lead over Drexel at the Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet. In the College's other match-up in the pod, the host Patriots from George Mason hold a 104-79 lead over the Tribe with nine events to be contested on Saturday.

Grad student Nick Duda (Vienna, Va.) led the Tribe on Friday night with four wins. Individually, he won the 200 free against George Mason in 1:44.47, and took second against Drexel by only four hundredths of a second. In the 50 free, Duda timed 21.50 for the win against the Dragons, and he helped the College earn victories against both opponents in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:26.34, swimming lead-off on the team with Kevin Gallagher (Bridgewater, N.J.), Andrew Quesenberry (Kingsville, Md.), and Nader Amer (Yorktown, Va.).

Amer also swam anchor on the 400 medley relay that won against Drexel in 3:32.29, teaming with Shawn Matthews (Rumson, N.J.), Jason Brisson (Richmond, Va.), and Geoff Ramsdell (Richmond, Va.). Matthews and Brisson each earned individual victories on the night, with Matthews timing 52.91 to defeat Drexel in the 100 back and Brisson swimming 59.68 in the 100 breast to beat Drexel. The College's final victory of the evening came in the 400 IM, where David Mangini (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) timed 4:17.75 to slay the Dragons.

The Pod Meet finishes tomorrow afternoon, with events starting at 1:30 p.m.
