James Picard Takes Third at Cavalier Open

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - Senior James Picard (Midlothian, Va.) took third at the Cavalier Open this morning, leading five teammates at the individuals-only meet in a warm-up for next week’s region championship. Virginia’s Kevin Tschirchart won the eight-kilometer race in 24:41.67.

Picard ran 25:14.83 for third, leading a pack of three runners that finished within four seconds of each other. Jared Campbell (Franklin, Ind.) finished seventh in 25:40.73, two seconds ahead of freshman Brian Sklodowski (Newark, Del.), eighth in 25:42.75. Bryce Wilk (Millbrook, N.Y.) crossed the line in 25:46.51 for 11th place, and redshirt-freshman Robert Sagar (Alexandria, Va.) was 18th in 26:21.99. True freshman Andrew Mearns (Williamsburg, Va.) rounded out the Tribe effort in 29th place, running 27:05.99.

Next up for the College is the Southeast Region Championship, November 10 in Louisville, Kentucky. The top two teams earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships, a trip that W&M has made every year since 1997.
