Men's Swimming Splits at CAA Pod Meet

Tribe Slays Dragons, Falls to Patriots

FAIRFAX, VA - William and Mary’s men’s swimming and diving team beat Drexel easily Saturday at the Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet, 202-144, but fell to home-standing George Mason in an excruciatingly-close match, 169-178. The Tribe improves to 2-3 (2-1 CAA) on the year.

A trio of athletes each earned four victories on the day to lead the College. Shawn Matthews (Rumson, N.J.) swept the 200 back in 1:53.26, and swam lead-off on the 200 medley relay that won both races in 1:36.01. Also on that relay was junior Jason Brisson (Richmond, Va.), who also earned individual victories against Drexel in thye 200 breast (2:11.06) and the 200 IM (1:59.32). Grad student Nick Duda (Vienna, Va.) swam anchor on the 200 medley relay, and lead-off on the 400 free relay that swept both opponents in 3:11.28.

Winning three races apiece were sophomore Kevin Gallagher (Bridgewater, N.J.) and freshman Geoff Ramsdell (Richmond, Va.). Gallagher won against George Mason in the 100 free with a time of 47.88, and Ramsdell pull the feat in the 100 fly with his time of 53.10. Both also swam on the 400 free relay. Sophomore Kevin Lynch (Roanoke, Va.) earned a pair of victories on the 200 medley relay, and junior Nader Amer (Yorktown, Va.) won a pair on the 400 free relay.

Next up for the Tribe is the Terrapin Cup Invitational, hosted by the University of Maryland, November 15-17.
