Women’s Swimming Sweeps at CAA Pod Meet

FAIRFAX, VA - William and Mary’s women’s swimming and diving team got back on the positive side of the conference ledger Saturday, sweeping its two opponents in the Colonial Athletic Association Pod Meet to improve to 2-1 in CAA play (2-3 overall). W&M defeated Drexel, 250-102, and cruised past George Mason, 212-141.

Sophomore Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va.) led the Tribe once again with four victories on the afternoon. She swept the 100 free against both schools with her time of 51.24, and swam anchor on the 400 free relay that also swept in 3:32.81. Also on that relay was junior Marina Falcone (Potomac, Md.), sophomore Lindsay Guers (Orwigsburg, Pa.), and senior Christina Monsees (Brewster, N.Y.). Falcone also earned an individual victory against George Mason in the 500 free, timing 5:04.59.

Senior captain Meredith David (Somerdale, N.J.) joined Falcone in winning three, sweeping the 200 back in 2:05.39 and swimming lead-off on the 200 medley relay team that timed 1:50.19 to defeat Drexel. Also on the 200 medley relay were freshmen Carolyn Royce (Midlothian, Va.) and Emily Burns (Snellville, Ga.), as well as junior Erin Welshofer (Charlotte, N.C.).

Sophomore Courtney Alles (Manassas Park, Va.) earned a trio of individual victories, and was just shy of a fourth. She swept the 200 IM in 2:12.35, and won the 200 breast against George Mason in 2:27.62, only two hundredths of a second behind the winner from Drexel. Junior Whitney Pezza (Warrenton, Va.) won the 100 fly against Drexel with her time of 59.45 to give the Tribe 12 wins in the 18 events they contested today.
