LOUISVILLE, KY - William and Mary’s men’s cross country team was one of three teams involved in a classic race Saturday at the Southeast Region Championships, taking third with 74 points, only five points behind the regional champions from N.C. W&M used a strong team effort for its third-place finish, upsetting No. 9 Virginia (who finished fourth). Two-time All-American Christo Landry (Falls Church, Va.) finished fourth in 29:44.25, and fellow senior Ian Fitzgerald (Glenshaw, Pa.) was sixth in 29:56.80, just two-hundredths of a second out of the top five. Also finishing in the top-25, and therefore winning all-region honors, were sophomore Ben Massam (Chatham, N.J.) and redshirt-freshman Patterson Wilhelm (Lynchburg, Va.). Massam ran 15th in 30:26.85, while Wilhelm was 23rd in 30:43.15.

Senior Dave Mock (Johnstown, Pa.) finished the Tribe’s scoring in 26th, just one spot behind earning all-region honors with his time of 30:50.75. Senior Rob Dennis (Little Silver, N.J.) was 36th in 31:12.15, and sophomore Colin Leak (Chadds Ford, Pa.) rounded out the team’s effort in 50th with a time of 31:31.80

The College will now await word from the NCAA Selection Committee as to whether or not they will have an 11th-consecutive appearance at the NCAA Championships on November 19. Those selections will be announced tomorrow by 7 p.m. Regardless, the Tribe will travel to New York City next Saturday, November 17, to defend its IC4A crown at Van Cortlandt Park.
