Tribe to Play Georgetown in NCAA Tournament Opening Round

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After posting a 14-4-2 record overall and finishing atop the regular-season conference standings, the William and Mary women’s soccer team earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament and will play Georgetown in the opening round on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va. The site’s other contest will feature fourth-seeded Virginia against Loyola (Md.) at 5 p.m.

The College closed out the regular season on a seven-match unbeaten streak and was ranked 25th nationally in the most-recent RPI released by the NCAA. Additionally, the Green and Gold registered a 13-2-2 record in its final 17 contests. During that span, W&M out-scored the opposition, 30-5.

The Tribe enters the tournament with one of the country’s top defenses, as it currently ranks third nationally in goals against average (0.433) and shutout percentage (0.65).

This season’s NCAA bid marks the 15th time in the last 16 years that the Tribe has earned an invitation to the tournament. Additionally, it is the 22nd time in the program’s history that it has garnered a spot in NCAA postseason play.
