COLLEGE PARK, MD - The William and Mary women’s swimming and diving team posted another strong showing Friday evening at the Terrapin Cup Invitational, holding steady at third in the nine-team field with 404 points. Connecticut extended its lead over second-place Maryland, 465-424.
Friday Results
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Meredith David (Somerdale, N.J.), Suzanne Figuers (Cary, N.C.), Whitney Pezza (Warrenton, Va.), and Lindsay Guers (Orwigsburg, Pa.) took fifth in 1:47.53, the fifth-fastest time in school history. Also scoring for the College was the team of Laura Herrmann (Fairfax Station, Va.), Rebecca Brofft (Fairfax, Va.), Erin Welshofer (Charlotte, N.C.), and Emily Burns (Snellville, Ga.), ninth in 1:49.35.
In the 400 IM, Figuers timed a personal-best 4:32.38 for 17th place. Her time improves her position at sixth on the Tribe’s all-time top-10 list, and comes nine months to the day after her performance at the CAA Championships that originally landed her in the all-time top-10. Courtney Alles (Manassas Park, Va.) placed eighth in 4:31.26, and Caitlin Block (Darien, Conn.) was 22nd in 4:45.71.
In the 100 fly, Pezza took third in 57.24, and Welshofer was sixth in 58.09. Herrmann placed 11th with a personal-best time of 58.85, 10th-best all-time at the College. Herrmann also placed in the all-time top-10 in the 100 backstroke, moving up to ninth in school history with her time of 59.60, placing 14th in the final standings. Classmate Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va.) placed third with a personal-best time of 57.10 seconds, second-fastest in school history. David was right behind her, placing fourth in 57.18.
Radloff won the 200 free for the second year in a row, timing 1:49.86 to qualify provisionally for the NCAA Championships. Marina Falcone (Potomac, Md.) took second with a personal-best time of 1:50.73, improving her position at second on the College’s all-time top-10 list. Guers was third, breaking the personal-best she set this morning with a time of 1:51.23, third-best in school history. Senior Christina Monsees (Brewster, N.Y.) was 13th in 1:53.66, and freshman Kristin Fimian (Oakton, Va.) placed 23rd in 1:57.43.
In the 100 breast, Figuers and Pezza swam right outside of the Tribe’s all-time top-10, placing 12th and 17th in 1:07.45 and 1:07.51, respectively. Brofft placed 18th in 1:08.42, and Alles was 23rd in 1:10.24.
The 800 free relay team of Falcone, Guers, Monsees, and Radloff won in 7:25.86, the second-fastest time in school history. Falcone’s lead-off leg of 1:50.82 was just off of the personal-best pace she timed earlier in the 200 free finals.
