Jason Brisson Threatens School Record in the 400 IM
Junior Only Five-Hundredths of a Second Behind Record

COLLEGE PARK, MD - William and Mary’s men’s swimming and diving team held its ground in fourth place Friday at the Terrapin Cup Invitational. Connecticut extended its lead over the seven-team field with 750 points, with West Chester in second with 586 points and Maryland third.
Friday Results
The 200 medley relay team of Shawn Matthews (Rumson, N.J.), Jason Brisson (Richmond, Va.), Geoff Ramsdell (Richmond, Va.), and Nick Duda (Vienna, Va.) opened the evening by placing sixth in 1:35.10. The team of Marshall Raiskin (Orlando, Fla.), Jim Fenningham (Philadelphia, Pa.), Kevin Lynch (Roanoke, Va.), and Andrew Quesenberry (Kingsville, Md.) posted the evening’s eighth-fastest time of 1:36.74.
In the 400 IM, Brisson took second in a personal-best time of 4:03.31, only five-hundredths of a second off of the W&M school record. David Mangini (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) placed sixth in 4:08.58, and senior captain Alex Jendzejec (Reston, Va.) was 10th in 4:12.57.
Ramsdell took 15th in the 100 fly with a time of 52.08. Nader Amer (Yorktown, Va.) was 18th in 51.56 seconds, and Lynch was 23rd in 52.52. In the 200 free, Kevin Gallagher (Bridgewater, N.J.) placed seventh in 1:43.73, and Duda was 12th in 1:43.78. Freshman Austin Baraki (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed 14th in 1:45.46, and Jendzejec placed 15th in 1:45.63. Joe DeBiase (Moon Township, Pa.) timed 1:45.25 for 20th, and senior captain Matt Shoulders (Roanoke, Va.) was 22nd in 1:46.45.
Brisson also appeared in the championship finals of the 100 breast, timing 57.41 seconds for fifth place. Fenningham dropped below one minute for the first time at W&M, timing 59.44 for 11th place, and Drew de Michaelis (Washington, D.C.) finished 19th in 1:01.50.
Matthews swam a personal-best 51.34 seconds in the finals of the 100 back to place third, and also moves to third on W&M’s all-time top performers list. Mangini was 11th in 53.24, with Raiskin, Gallagher, and Ramsdell placing 14th, 15th, and 16th, respectively.
Freshman Mike Newcomb (Williamsburg, Va.) just missed advancing out of the preliminaries of the 1-Meter diving event, placing ninth with a collegiate-best score of 204.80. In the evening’s final event, the 800 free relay team of Gallagher, Jendzejec, Matthews, and Duda placed fifth in 6:54.36, the seventh-fastest time in school history. The team of Amer, Baraki, DeBiase, and Ramsdell timed 7:00.22 to take eighth.
The Terrapin Cup Invitational concludes tomorrow with six events.
