Katie Radloff Qualifies for NCAA’s in the 100 Free

COLLEGE PARK, MD - An NCAA-qualifying mark and a pair of W&M all-time top-10 performances highlighted the women’s swimming and diving team’s effort this morning in qualifying at the Terrapin Cup Invitational.

In the 200 back, senior captain Meredith David (Somerdale, N.J.) touched the wall in 2:03.93 to earn the third seed in tonight’s championship final. Sophomore Suzanne Figuers (Cary, N.C.) advanced to the consolation finals after timing 2:10.04.

In the 100 free, sophomore Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va.) positioned herself to sweep the sprint freestyle titles for the second year in a row, advancing as the top seed in the championship finals with an NCAA “B” qualifying time of 49.98. Lindsay Guers (Orwigsburg, Pa.) timed 52.45 seconds to tie for eighth place, and would have to win a swim-off to make the championship finals (results from the swim-off unavailable). Her time ranks her fourth in school history. Senior Christina Monsees (Brewster, N.Y.) made the consolation finals with her time of 53.21, while junior Marina Falcone (Potomac, Md.) and freshman Emily Burns (Snellville, Ga.) made the bonus consolation race after swimming 53.41 and 53.48, respectively.

Sophomore Courtney Alles (Manassas Park, Va.) posted the tenth-fastest time of the morning in the 200 breaststroke, 2:27.38, to earn a spot in the consolation finals. Joining her will be junior Rebecca Brofft (Fairfax, Va.), who qualified in a time of 2:27.86. In the 200 fly, sophomore Erin Welshofer (Charlotte, N.C.) was fifth in qualifying this morning with a time of 2:07.25 to earn a spot in the championship finals. Also making the championship final was classmate Laura Herrmann (Fairfax Station, Va.), who continued her monster weekend by timing 2:07.67 to become the sixth-fastest woman in school history in the 200 fly. Junior Whitney Pezza (Warrenton, Va.) is the top seed in the consolation finals after timing 2:08.20 in the preliminary round (ninth overall).

The finals of this morning’s events, along with the 1650 free, 400 free relay, and 3-Meter diving, will conclude the Invitational this evening.
