Ryan Overdevest Earns First-Team Academic All-America Honors
The senior co-captain became the third Tribe player to earn Academic All-America honors on two occasions during his career.

Williamsburg - William and Mary senior men’s soccer player Ryan Overdevest garnered ESPN The Magazine First-Team Academic All-America honors, the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA) announced on Monday. It marks the second straight season in which Overdevest received Academic All-America accolades after earning second-team laurels in 2006.
Overdevest was the lone player from the CAA to garnered Academic All-America honors with a flawless grade point average, while majoring in business at the College. The Academic All-America honor is the sixth occasions in which a W&M player has garnered the distinction. Overdevest became the third Tribe player to be a two-time Academic All-American, joining Kevin Knott and John Tuttle.
This season, Overdevest helped the Tribe to a 9-9-3 overall mark, a 6-4-1 ledger in the CAA and the berth in the league tournament for the first time since 2004. He started 17 matches, while playing in all 21 for the College. Overdevest fin-ished his senior campaign with three points on a goal and an assist. He headed in the game-winner in the Tribe’s 1-0 victory over Delaware, while providing the assist on the Tribe’s game-winning tally against VCU. For his career, Overdevest has played in 61 matches, earning 25 starts.
The senior co-captain has been a standout in the classroom as well as on the pitch. During the last three seasons, Overdevest has won the W&M Alumni Award for the highest GPA on the Tribe men’s soccer team. Last spring, he was named the W&M Robert M. Usry Award winner. The award is given annually to a varsity athlete who has earned at least one varsity letter, has the highest GPA of any athlete at the end of his/her junior year and has completed 75 per-cent of his/her degree requirements for graduation.
Overdevest was selected from a national ballot that included the first-team Academic All-District choices from the eight CoSIDA districts. The Academic All-Americans were selected by a vote of members of CoSIDA.
