Christo Landry Places 13th at NCAA Cross Country Championships

TERRE HAUTE, IND - William and Mary senior Christo Landry (Falls Church, Va.) earned the third All-American honor of his career Monday afternoon at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, placing 13th overall in a field of more than 250 runners. Liberty’s Josh McDougal won his first NCAA title by mere feet over Oregon’s Galen Rupp. In the team race, Rupp’s Ducks claimed the championship for the first time since 1977, with a score of 85-113 over Iona. As a team, William and Mary placed 15th with 432 points, the 11th top-15 showing in school history.

Landry timed 30:04.0 for his 13th-place finish, becoming only the third W&M harrier to ever finish in the top-15. Hal Michael ’71 became the College’s first All-American when he finished seventh at the 1969 NCAA Championships, and Matt Lane ’01 finished 11th in 1998 and fifth in 1999. Landry also joins Lane as the only Tribe runners with three All-American performances in cross country.

Redshirt-freshman Patterson Wilhelm (Lynchburg, Va.) was the second W&M runner across the line, timing 31:20.8 for 123rd place. Senior Dave Mock (Johnstown, Pa.) was 133rd in 31:24.5, with classmate Ian Fitzgerald (Glenshaw, Pa.) and sophomore Ben Massam (Chatham, N.J.) were 138th and 139th with identical times of 31:25.5. Senior Rob Dennis (Little Silver, N.J.) timed 31:44.6, and junior Colin Leak (Chadds Ford, Pa.) finished the team’s effort in 34:51.5.

With the cross country season now complete, the Tribe looks forward to a short rest period before the indoor track season begins.
