Claire Zimmeck Honored as a Hermann Trophy Semifinalist

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary junior forward Claire Zimmeck has been selected as a semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy. Zimmeck is among the nation’s top 15 players being considered for the player of the year award. Considered to be college soccer’s version of the Heisman Trophy, the winner is selected by NCAA Division I coaches who are current National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) members.

After posting one of the most outstanding seasons in the program’s history, Zimmeck was selected as the 2007 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year. Additionally, she was chosen to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Season First Team.

The Fairfax, Va., native finished the regular season ranked sixth nationally in goals per game (0.842) and among the conference’s best in virtually every offensive category. Zimmeck totaled a league-best 17 goals, 10 game-winning goals and 34 points.

Zimmeck scored at least one goal in 11 of W&M’s 22 matches and recorded five multi-goal efforts. Highlighting her impressive season was a three-match span in late October when she tallied seven goals in wins against Towson, George Mason and Georgia State. Additionally, she provided the game-winner in the 1-0 triumph against then-No. 2 North Carolina.

With 42 career goals, Zimmeck currently ranks tied for fourth on the school’s all-time list.
