Men’s Swimming Cruises Against Mary Washington, 116-81

FREDERICKSBURG, VA - Junior Nader Amer (Yorktown, Va.) swam on both winning relays and added an individual win to lead the William and Mary men’s swim team to victory at Mary Washington Saturday afternoon, 116-81. Victors in all 11 events in today’s meet (the last three of which were exhibitioned), the Tribe closes the fall season on a two-match winning streak and at 3-3 (2-1 CAA) overall.

Complete Results

Amer swam anchor on the 200 medley relay that opened the afternoon timing 1:38.53 for the win. Also on that team were David Mangini (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Jason Brisson (Richmond, Va.), and Geoff Ramsdell (Richmond, Va.). In the 100 fly, Amer cruised to the front of the pack with his time of 53.49 seconds, and finished his afternoon on the fastest 200 free relay (1:27.68) with Kevin Lynch (Roanoke, Va.), Nick Duda (Vienna, Va.), and Alex Jendzejec (Reston, Va.).

Two-event winners abounded for W&M, including all of three of Amer’s teammates on the 200 medley relay. Mangini was the top finisher in the 200 IM, timing 2:00.17. Brisson and Ramsdell each posted the top times in events where all Tribe swimmers were exhibitioned, with Brisson taking the laurels in the 100 breast with a time of 1:00.73, and Ramsdell winning the 500 free in 4:50.37.

Also winning a pair was Duda, who swam 1:45.39 in the 200 free along with his turn on the 200 free relay team, and sophomore Kevin Gallagher (Bridgewater, N.J.), who swept the 50 free in 22.08 seconds and the 100 back in 54.71 seconds. Junior Shawn Matthews (Rumson, N.J.) won the 1,000 free in 9:55.58, and freshman Michael Naccarelli (Wallingford, Pa.) completed the gold-medal sweep in the 100 free with his time of 48.28 seconds.

After a break for exams and the winter holidays, the Tribe will return to action on January 12, hosting the College of Charleston at 2 p.m. in Williamsburg.
