Ian Fitzgerald Makes NCAA Provisional Cut at Liberty 5,000m

Five Qualify for IC4A Champs on First Day of Season

LYNCHBURG, VA - Senior Ian Fitzgerald (Glenshaw, Pa.) ran 14:07.81 in the 5,000m today at the Liberty Kickoff, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships on the first day of the indoor track season.

A total of five athletes earned IC4A-qualifying marks today, including Fitzgerald. In the 800m run, junior Ryan Jones (Harrisburg, Pa.) ran 1:54.45 to win the event and slide under the qualifying bar. In the 5,000m, sophomore Patterson Wilhelm (Lynchburg, Va.) fed off of the hometown crowd to run 14:32.89 for fifth place. Also qualifying for the IC4A meet in the 5,000m were senior Dave Mock (Johnstown, Pa.) and sophomore Charlie Swartz (Manassas, Va.), running 14:40.97 and 14:44.42, respectively.

Another notable performance came in the high jump, where junior Cam Shriver (Oxford, Ohio) tied for second after clearing 6’ 8.25”, the eighth-best mark in school history. Tribe runners swept the top-five places in the mile, led by sophomore Harry Miller (Portland, Ore.) in 4:16.15. Right behind Miller was redshirt-freshman Sean Mahoney (Wayne, Pa.) in 4:18.15, and sophomore Cabell Rosanelli (Richmond, Va.) in 4:19.58. Freshman Sean Sewell (Raleigh, N.C.) was fourth in 4:23.09, and redshirt-freshman Jeff Perrella (Westfield, N.J.) was fifth in 4:24.20.
