W&M to Play at Longwood on Friday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary women’s basketball team will return to action when it plays at Longwood on Friday at 7 p.m.

Although the Tribe fell in its last contest to Kentucky, it was a memorable game for senior Kyra Kaylor who became W&M’s all-time leading scorer. Kaylor finished the contest with a team-high 15 points and increased her career total to 1,520, surpassing the previous record of 1,511 established by Jen Sobota (1999-03).

Kaylor leads the Tribe in scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.6 ppg and 7.3 rpg. The Pittsburgh, Pa., native’s scoring average ranks sixth in the conference. Sophomore Tiffany Benson also continues to play well and leads the league with 1.86 bpg. Benson has performed particularly well in the last two games, averaging 13.0 ppg and 9.0 rpg. Additionally, she is connecting on 60 percent (9-of-15) of her attempts.

W&M currently leads the Colonial Athletic Association in three-pointers made per game (7.14) and ranks second in long-range shooting percentage (36.2).

After starting the season with a three-game losing streak, Longwood has bounced back with wins in five of its last seven contests. Currently on a three-game winning streak, the Lancers earned a 62-53 triumph against UNC Greensboro in its last outing. Keiva Small leads the team in scoring with 15.9 ppg, while Odessa Williams is the squad’s top rebounder with 6.2 rpg.

The Tribe leads the all-time series with Longwood, 13-9. Last season, the Green and Gold earned a 70-27 triumph in Williamsburg. Longwood’s scoring output was the lowest versus W&M in the post-1983 era. In the victory, Kyra Kaylor eclipsed the 1,000-point mark.
