DePew Named Oneonta Tigers Head Athletic Trainer

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary Assistant Athletic Trainer Jacob “Tyler” DePew has been named the Head Athletic Trainer for the Oneonta Tigers, a Single-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. While working part-time at the College, DePew has spent the past two seasons as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Tigers’ Rookie League affiliate, the Gulf Coast League Tigers.

As the head athletic trainer, DePew will be responsible for the daily care and treatment for the Oneonta Tigers players and staff. Additionally, he will assist with duties pertaining to team travel during the off-season and facilities upkeep.

"Tyler's clinical skills and enthusiasm are an important component in our efforts to provide the best possible health care to our student-athletes,” said Steve Cole, W&M Assistant Athletic Director for Health Services. “While his presence will be sorely missed, we are excited for him in this new professional opportunity and will look forward to his return next fall."

DePew has been a member of the W&M athletic training staff during the past three winters. While he has assisted in limited capacities with all of the College’s teams, he has worked closely with men’s basketball, women’s soccer, men’s tennis and women’s lacrosse.

DePew will once again leave the College in late January, as he heads to Florida for spring training. He will assist with the Detroit Tigers fantasy camp and will oversee the pre-participation physicals administered to all the organization’s minor league players.

Prior to joining the Tribe staff, DePew served as a graduate assistant at the University of Oregon where he worked with the football, track and field, and wrestling teams. He earned a B.S. in kinesiology with specialization in athletic training at the University of Illinois – Chicago.
