W&M to Host Duquesne on Thursday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After an 11-day break for exams, the William and Mary women’s basketball team will return to action when it hosts Duquesne at Kaplan Arena on Thursday at 6 p.m. The Tribe enters the game having won its last two games and three of its last four.

In its last contest prior to the break, W&M (5-4) earned a 90-56 victory at Howard on Dec. 9. The College connected on a school-record 15 three-pointers in the triumph. Junior Courtney Portell led the Tribe with a career-high 24 points and equaled a school record with seven three-pointers, while senior Kyra Kaylor and sophomore Tiffany Benson both registered double-doubles.

Kaylor leads the Tribe in scoring with 15.6 ppg, while she and Benson are averaging a team-best 8.3 rpg. Benson, who leads the conference with 2.0 bpg, is averaging a double-double during the last four games with 12.8 ppg and 12.0 rpg.

As a team, W&M leads the conference and ranks sixth nationally with 8.1 made three-pointers per game. Additionally, the Tribe is tops in the Colonial Athletic Association with a long-range shooting percentage of .372.

Duquesne enters Thursday’s game having won three of its last four contests and owns a 6-4 mark. Kristi Little leads the squad with 18.6 ppg and is dishing out a team-high 6.7 apg, while Jade Singleton is the Dukes’ top rebounder with 7.7 rpg.

The College and Duquesne have played just once before, as the Tribe earned a 69-54 triumph last season in Pittsburgh, Pa. Kaylor led W&M in the triumph with 20 points and nine rebounds.

Prior to Thursday’s game, senior Devin James will be recognized for recently becoming the program’s 12th 1,000-point scorer.
