Zimmeck and Collins Earn NSCAA All-America Honors

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William and Mary junior forward Claire Zimmeck and junior midfielder Danielle Collins have been selected to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America Third Team.

A semifinalist for the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, Zimmeck posted one of the best seasons in the program’s history in 2007. The Fairfax, Va., native finished the regular season ranked sixth nationally with 0.842 goals per game and ranked among the Colonial Athletic Association’s best in virtually every offensive category. En route to being selected as the CAA Player of the Year, she totaled a league-best 17 goals, 10 game-winning goals and 34 points.

Zimmeck scored at least one goal in 11 of W&M’s 22 matches and recorded five multi-goal efforts. Highlighting her impressive season was a three-match span in late October when she tallied seven goals in wins against Towson, George Mason and Georgia State. Additionally, she provided the game-winner in the 1-0 triumph against then-No. 2 North Carolina.

With 42 career goals, Zimmeck ranks tied for fourth on the school’s all-time list.

Despite missing seven matches due to injury, Collins was also honored with All-America accolades. The Cream Ridge, N.J., native finished the season with 10 points on four goals and a pair of assists and was selected to the All-CAA First Team. Chosen to the Preseason Hermann Trophy Watch List, Collins earned all-tournament team distinction at the Tribe Invite and VCU Invite.

Both Zimmeck and Collins were instrumental in the Tribe’s success this season, as the squad posted a 15-5-2 overall record and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Additionally, the squad went 9-1-1 in conference play and finished atop the regular-season standings for the second consecutive season.
