Tribe Lacrosse To Travel To Australia

Williamsburg - The William and Mary lacrosse team is traveling to Australia over the school’s winter break, heading “Down Under” on Friday, December 28th. The team will arrive in Melbourne on December 30th and spend 10 days total on the continent, including a four-day stay in Sydney.

“As a team and staff, Tribe Lacrosse is extremely excited to make our first trip abroad to Australia,” said head coach Christine Halfpenny. “This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and we are thrilled.”

In Melbourne, the team will play four exhibition games over four days against several of the Australian national teams, and the Tribe will also participate in a junior lacrosse clinic, assisting with teaching and instruction of lacrosse skills to young players from Melbourne.

“The international trip will provide us the ability to play against outstanding competition and some of the top players in the world,” Halfpenny added. “We strongly believe this trip will be the catalyst for building incredible team chemistry for the 2008 season.”

Outside of competition in Melbourne, the team will partake in a number of cultural activities and experiences, including a tour along the famous Great Ocean Road, surfing lessons in the historic beach town of Torquay and a visit to the historic Queen Victoria Market.

In Sydney, the team will have the opportunity to explore the Darling Harbour precinct, the Sydney Harbour, as well as tour the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. The team will also visit the Taronga Zoo and spend time at the famous Manly Beach.
