Tribe to Host Delaware on Sunday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary women’s basketball team will return to action when it hosts Delaware on Sunday at 2 p.m.

While the Tribe (6-8, 0-2) lost to Virginia Commonwealth in its last outing, the team had four players score in double figures. Senior Devin James registered a team-high 12 points, while senior Kyra Kaylor nearly earned her fourth double-double in the last six games with an 11-point, eight-rebound effort. Sophomore Tiffany Benson and freshman Katherine DeHenzel added 10 points apiece.

Kaylor continues to lead the College in scoring (14.6 ppg) and rebounding (8.8), ranking among the conference’s top 10 in both categories. Benson leads the league with 2.21 bpg and has tallied at least one block in 26 straight games. One of the nation’s top three-point shooters, junior Courtney Portell is averaging a league-best 3.1 three-pointers per game on 41.1 percent long-range shooting.

As a team, the Green and Gold lead the Colonial Athletic Association with 7.5 three-pointers per game. W&M also ranks third in the league with 11.50 spg and 39.9 rpg, while it is forcing the opposition into 21.1 turnovers per game.

Delaware enters Sunday’s game with a 2-12 record overall and a 1-1 mark in CAA play. In its last contest, the Blue Hens fell to Drexel, 66-62, in Newark, Del. Courtney Irving led UD with a career-high 18 points in the loss. Kyle DeHaven leads Delaware in scoring (10.6 ppg) and rebounding (5.5 rpg). As a team, Delaware ranks last in the CAA with 50.0 ppg on just 31.5 percent shooting.
