Women's Swimming and Diving Cruises By Charleston, 141-97

WILLIAMSBURG - William and Mary’s women’s swimming and diving team opened the spring schedule in high style Saturday afternoon, winning eight of 13 events and routing the College of Charleston, 141-97. With the victory, W&M improves to 4-3 (2-1 CAA), while Charleston falls to 3-5, (2-3 CCSA).

Junior Marina Falcone (Potomac, Md.) and senior captain Meredith David (Somerdale, N.J.) each claimed three victories on the afternoon. Falcone won the 200 free in 1:53.46 and the 500 free in 5:04.48, before teaming with David, senior Christina Monsees (Brewster, N.Y.) and sophomore Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va.) to win the 200 free relay in 1:39.53. Falcone’s two individual victories give her 45 in her career, the fifth-best total all-time at the College.

David also swam lead-off on the 200 medley relay, leading freshman Carolyn Royce (Midlothian, Va.) and sophomores Erin Welshofer (Charlotte, N.C.) and Lindsay Guers (Orwigsburg, Pa.) to victory in 1:51.21. David finished her haul with a gold medal in the 200 backstroke, timing 2:06.50 for her 41st career victory.

Freshman Sarah Cannon (Watkinsville, Ga.) continued her impressive rookie season on the boards, winning both diving events with scores of 169.35 and 223.43, with the latter placing her 10th on the all-time top performer’s list at W&M. Earning individual victories were Radloff in the 50 free with a time of 23.88 and Welshofer in the 200 fly, timing 2:09.15. Sophomore Courtney Alles (Manassas Park, Va.) rounded out the Tribe’s effort with a victory in the 400 IM, timing 4:40.48. Also of note, Guers' second-place effort in the 200 back of 2:07.47 moved her into eighth all-time at the College.

William and Mary returns to the pool next Saturday, January 19, with a 2 p.m. match against top CAA-rival UNC Wilmington.
