Tribe Coninues Action at USF Invite

W&M will wrap up the three-day event on Sunday, Jan. 13.

Tampa, Fla. - The William and Mary men’s tennis team competed in the second day of the South Florida Spring Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 12. The three-day event with a trio of singles and doubles draws includes the Tribe along with the host Bulls, Memphis and Florida A&M.

The Tribe dropped a pair of tight matches in the top two doubles flights. In Flight A, the W&M duo of junior Alex Zuck and sophomore Richard Wardell lost an 8-6 match to South Florida’s Thomas Estrada and Daniel Daudt. The Tribe tandem of junior Dominic Pagon and senior Kavi Sud fell in a tiebreaker, 9-8 (4), to Lucas Jovita and Michael Nusslein of South Florida.

In singles, Pagon played the marquee matched against No. 84 ranked Mahmoud Hamed of South Florida in Flight A singles. Pagon, who leads the Tribe in singles victories with 10, dropped a 6-4, 6-1 decision against his second ranked opponent of the season.

The College will wrap up competition at the USF Invitational on Sunday, Jan. 13. W&M opens its dual match slate at home with a doubleheader on Friday, Jan. 18. The Tribe will meet Temple at 3 p.m., before facing Richmond at 7:30 p.m. Both matches will be played at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
