Katie Guevel Sets Freshman Record in the 55m Hurdles, Qualifies for ECACs

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The William and Mary women’s track and field team traveled to Annapolis today to take part in a five-team meet at the Halsey Field House, and returned home with a pair of ECAC qualifications and another freshman indoor record.

Complete Results

Freshman Katie Guevel (Burlington, Kan.) won the 55m hurdles in an ECAC-qualifying time of 8.24 seconds, racing her way to her second freshman indoor record with the performance. Her time broke Billie Hart ‘96’s record of 8.55 seconds, set February 20, 1993. It also leaves her second all-time at the College, just four hundredths of a second behind Kara Snyder ’04.

Sophomore Nicole Kazuba (Chantilly, Va.) re-qualified for the ECAC indoor championships in the pole vault with her second-place effort of 11’ 9.75”. Classmate Ashley Williams (Williamsburg, Va.) was third in the weight throw with a toss of 41’ 4.5”, the ninth-best mark in school history.

Winners on the day included senior Allie Lewis (Roanoke, Va.), who ran 2:15.91 in the 800m, and junior Lynn Morelli (Philadelphia, Pa.), who timed 10:14.15 in the 3,000m run. Also victorious was sophomore Carly Morse (Sumerduck, Va.) in the shot put with a put of 42’ 7”, and the distance medley relay team that timed 12:39.71.

Next weekend, the Tribe travels to Newport News, Virginia on Friday and Saturday, January 25-26, for the CNU Captain’s Invitational; and to Fairfax, Virginia, for Patriot Games at George Mason on Saturday, January 26.
