Carly Morse Has Career Day in the Shot Put

Allie Lewis Less Than Quarter-Second Behind ECAC Mark in 1,000m

FAIRFAX, VA - Sophomore Carly Morse (Sumerduck, Va.) had a career-best day Saturday at the George Mason Patriot Games, and provided one of the Tribe’s two close-shaves with the ECAC qualifying standards.

Morse won the shot put competition with a personal-best put of 43’ 5”, only about 14 inches behind the distance needed to qualify for the ECAC Championships. Her performance moves Morse into seventh all-time at the College.

Senior Allie Lewis (Roanoke, Va.) also won her event Saturday, timing 2:57.73 in the 1,000m run. Her time is less than two-tenths of a second behind the ECAC-qualifying time of 2:57.54. Last year, Lewis ran the second-fastest time in school history, 2:52.33, in the ECAC preliminaries.

Other notable performances came for the Tribe came in the sprinting events. In the 60m dash, freshman Olofunke Fagbami (Lagos, Nigeria) tied her personal-best mark of 8.07 seconds to finish eighth overall. Fagbami previously ran the time in December at CNU, and ranks tied for fourth all-time at the College. Junior Ashley Madonick (Seaside Park, N.J.) took fifth in the 400m dash, running 1:00.15.

William and Mary returns to action next Friday and Saturday, February 1-2, at the Texas Roadhouse Carolina Classic, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
