Tribe Downs Longwood

Williamsburg - The William and Mary men’s tennis team earned a split in its Saturday doubleheader with a 6-1 win over Longwood. After a tough battle in a loss to No. 15 Wake Forest during the afternoon, the Tribe returned to the courts and claimed the victory, improving to 4-2 on the season.

W&M took the top two doubles positions to clinch the initial point of the match. The duo of junior Dominic Pagon and freshman Sebastien Vidal won their second straight tandems match, downing Carlos Garcia de Andoain and Brandon Lindsey, 8-4. The Tribe pair of junior Alex Zuck and sophomore Richard Wardell completed a perfect day as well, clinching the point with an 8-4 victory over Billy Heird and David Cardoso.

The Tribe the opening three singles matches off the court in straight sets to notch the team victory. Senior Alex Cojanu started the victory parade for W&M with a 6-4, 6-1 over Garcia de Andoain at the No. 1 slot. Junior Marwan Ramadan tallied his 10th singles win of the season with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Austin Brawley. Fellow classmate Alex Zuck clinched the W&M victory with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at the No. 6 slot.

Sophomore Keziel Juneau rallied from a set deficit to win at the No. 2 spot. After falling in a tiebreaker in the opening set, Juneau forced a third set with a 6-1 win. With the match outcome already decided, he took the third-set super tiebreaker, 10-7, over Cardoso.

Vidal also tallied a three-set victory at the No. 4 spot, running his winning streak to two matches. The W&M rookie defeated Heird, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, to cap the Green and Gold victory.

The Tribe will now hit the road with three matches. The College will face Ivy League foes Brown and Harvard on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, respectively, before battling Purdue in Boston on Feb. 3. The Brown match is slated for a 3 p.m. start time, while both matches in Boston are schedule for 6 p.m. start times. W&M returns home with doubleheaders on Feb. 9 and Feb. 10.

Pagon and Vidal improved to 3-1 as a team this season, playing all four matches during the dual match season ... Zuck and Wardell improved to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the dual-match campaign ... Cojanu and Juneau claimed their seventh singles victories of the year ... Vidal improved to a perfect 2-0 during the dual match portion of the schedule and 6-4 overall ... Ramadan upped his mark to 10-6 on the season, while Zuck bumped his record to 9-6.
