Men's Tennis Moves into National Top-40

The Tribe jumped five spots to No. 38 in the ITA National Rankings released on Jan. 29.

Williamsburg - On the strength of it comeback win over Old Dominion and an impressive performance against then-No. 15 Wake Forest, the William and Mary men’s tennis team jumped five spots to No. 38 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Men’s Tennis Rankings, released by the organization on Jan. 29. The College earned a ranking of No. 43 in the initial poll of the season, before jumping into the national top-40.

W&M is 4-2 on the season with both of its defeats coming to opponents ranked in the national top 14. The Tribe dropped its first match of the season to Virginia, who is currently the No. 1-ranked team in the nation, before falling to Wake Forest, who moved up one spot in the ranking this week to No. 14. Last week, the Tribe tallied a pair of victories over then-No. 38 Old Dominion on Jan. 23 and Longwood on Jan. 26. W&M dropped the doubles points and five of the six first sets in singles, before roaring back for the 5-2 win over the Monarchs.

The Tribe will hit the road with three matches this weekend. The College will face Ivy League foes in No. 75 Brown and No. 75 Harvard on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, respectively, before battling Purdue in Boston on Feb. 3. The Brown match is slated for a 3:30 p.m. start time, while both matches in Boston are schedule for 6 p.m. start times. W&M returns home with doubleheaders on Feb. 9 and Feb. 10.
