WILLIAMSBURG - Despite an inspired performance from the Class of 2009 on the day honoring their predecessors, the Class of 2008, the men’s swimming and diving team was unable to get past Delaware this afternoon, falling 127-171. The Tribe concludes the regular season at 4-6, 2-4 CAA, while Delaware improves to 11-3, 4-1 CAA.

Complete Results

Junior Jason Brisson (Richmond, Va.) won all three of his individual events, representing half of the six-event haul reaped by the junior class today. He started off by taking the 200 fly in 1:56.22, and followed with a win in the 200 breast with a time of 2:11.33. His afternoon was capped off by a 1:58.82 delivery in the 200 IM, the 12th victory of the season for Brisson, and the 41st of his career. His career total ranks third in school history, and he joins Chris Robinson ’00 as the only two athletes with three seasons of more than 12 wins each (Brisson won 12 as a freshman and 17 as a sophomore).

Classmate Shawn Matthews (Rumson, N.J.) swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 back in 52.42 seconds and taking the 200 back in 1:52.06, breaking the pool record he set three weeks ago against Charleston. His two titles pushes his season total to 14, the top mark on the team this year, and his career total to 29 victories, the seventh-best total in school history.

Junior Nader Amer (Yorktown, Va.) joined his cohorts on the medal stand after winning the 200 free in 1:45.12. The win makes Amer the 28th Tribe athlete to earn 10 or more career victories. Sophomore Drew de Michaelis (Washington, D.C.) rounded out the Tribe’s effort with his first career victory, winning the 100 breast in 1:01.62.

With the regular season concluded, William and Mary is now training towards the CAA Championships, February 27-March 1 in Fairfax, Virginia.
