Massam, Wilhelm Earn Trips to the IC4A Championships

Pair Run 1-2 in the 3,000m at Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - William and Mary’s men’s track and field team picked up a pair of IC4A invitations Saturday at the UNC Texas Roadhouse Carolina Classic, along with six top-five showings.

Sophomores Ben Massam (Chatham, N.J.) and Patterson Wilhelm (Lynchburg, Va.) ran one-two in the 3,000m, each finishing under the IC4A-qualifying bar. Massam won the event with a time of 8:26.11, while Wilhelm ran 8:29.10 for second. Junior Drew Midland (Virginia Beach, Va.) was just behind the time needed to qualify, finishing fourth in 8:29.91.

Junior David Groff (Centreville, Va.) took runner-up honors in the mile after running 4:15.16. Classmate Ryan Jones (Harrisburg, Pa.) was also second, this time in the 800m with a time of 1:55.22. Junior Cam Shriver (Oxford, Ohio) finished fourth in the high jump, having cleared 6’ 8”.

The Tribe is back in action next weekend, February 9, with the Vince Brown Invitational in Newport News, Virginia.
