Tribe to Play at Towson on Thursday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary women’s basketball team will play the first of three consecutive road games when it squares off against Towson on Thursday at 7 p.m.

In its last outing, the Tribe (10-11, 4-5) had its two-game winning streak snapped with a 69-53 loss against James Madison. Senior Kyra Kaylor led W&M with a game-high 19 points to go along with nine rebounds and a pair of steals. With the effort, the Pittsburgh, Pa., native increased her career rebounds total to 1,039 and needs just five more boards to break the program’s all-time record.

Kaylor continues to lead the team in scoring (14.9 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg), ranking among the conference’s top five in both categories. With seven steals against JMU, senior Devin James is averaging 3.0 spg, a figure that ranks second in the league and 25th nationally. Junior Courtney Portell tops the CAA and ranks ninth in the country with 2.8 made three-pointers per game.

As a team, the College ranks second in the conference and 18th nationally with 11.8 spg. Additionally, the Tribe is second in the league with 6.4 three-pointers made per game.

Towson currently owns a 15-5 record overall and a 7-2 mark in CAA play. The Tigers recently had a 10-game winning streak but have dropped two of their last three games. Holly Mahan leads the team in scoring (14.0 ppg), while Kandace Davis is the squad’s top rebounder (7.6 rpg). As a team, Towson leads the league and ranks fourth nationally with 13.30 spg.

The Tribe controls the all-time series with TU, 9-4. However, all four of the Tigers’ wins have come in the last five meetings. Earlier this season, Towson defeated the College, 57-48, at Kaplan Arena in both teams’ conference opener. Kaylor posted an impressive performance in the contest, totaling 15 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks. Kaylor has played incredibly well against Towson during her career, averaging 13.2 ppg and 11.6 rpg.
