Tribe to Host Northeastern on Sunday at 3 p.m.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - After playing three consecutive road games, the William and Mary women’s basketball team will return home when it hosts Northeastern on Sunday at 3 p.m. Prior to the contest, senior Kyra Kaylor will be honored for recently becoming the program’s all-time leading rebounder. The game will be televised live by Comcast SportsNet.

Although the Tribe (11-13, 5-7) fell at James Madison, 77-60, in its last outing, a number of W&M players performed well. Junior Dani Kell poured in a season-high 19 points – 14 of which came in the second half – while senior Devin James added 16 points, six rebounds and four steals. Kaylor also came up big and nearly earned a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, as she broke the school record for games played (116).

Kaylor leads the Tribe in scoring (14.8 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg), ranking third in the Colonial Athletic Association in both categories. Sophomore Tiffany Benson leads the CAA with 1.63 bpg, while junior Courtney Portell ranks second in the league with 2.64 made three-pointers per game. Benson’s 39 blocks rank fourth on W&M’s single-season list, while Portell’s 58 three-pointers also rank fourth.

As a team, the College ranks second in the conference with 6.3 made three-pointers per game and 25th nationally with 11.3 spg.

Northeastern enters Sunday’s game having lost three of its last four contests and owns a 7-15 record overall and a 2-10 mark in conference play. Shaleyse Smallwood leads the team in scoring (12.2 ppg), while Kendra Walton is the squad’s top rebounder (5.5 rpg). Northeastern ranks second in the CAA in free throw percentage (.769), but it ranks last in scoring margin (-9.8) and rebounding margin (-8.8).

The Tribe and Northeastern have played just twice, with W&M earning victories in both meetings. Last season, the Green and Gold recorded a 58-49 triumph in Williamsburg. Kaylor has played well against the Huskies during her career, averaging 23.0 ppg and 14.0 rpg. Additionally, she has shot 66.7 percent (12-of-18) from the field and 94.7 percent (18-of-19) from the free throw line.
