Katie Guevel Lowers 60m Hurdles School Record Twice at UNC

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - William and Mary’s women’s track and field team competed Saturday at the Chick-Fil-A Carolina Invitational in Chapel Hill, coming away with several personal-best marks.

Freshman Katie Guevel (Burlington, Kan.) lowered her own school record in the 60m hurdles twice, running 8.83 seconds in the preliminaries and 8.72 seconds in the finals to finish third. In the 60m dash, she ran 7.90 seconds in the preliminaries to become the third-fastest sprinter in school history in the event, and was only one one-hundredth of a second behind the freshman record.

Also recording personal-best marks in the College’s all-time top-10 lists, senior Nicole Bost (Mechanicsville, Va.) cleared 11’ 1.75” in the pole vault to tie as the fourth-best vaulter in school history. Sophomore Alyssa Gaeto (Brentwood, Tenn.) ran 8.13 seconds in the 60m dash to rank eighth all-time at the College in the event.

Other performances of note included sophomore Nicole Kazuba (Chantilly, Va.) taking second in the pole vault with an ECAC-qualifying height of 12’ 1.5”. Classmate Carly Morse (Sumerduck, Va.) took third in the shot put with a heave of 42’ 3.25”, and Gaeto took fourth in the long jump after a leap of 18’ 2.25”.

William and Mary is back in action next weekend, February 22-23, at the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, Virginia.
