Tribe to Host Drexel on Thursday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary women’s basketball team will return to action when it hosts Drexel at Kaplan Arena on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Earlier this season, W&M (11-14, 5-8) earned a 54-50 triumph against DU (14-10, 9-4) in Philadelphia on Jan. 27. Senior Kyra Kaylor led the Tribe with a game-high 16 points, while Devin James and sophomore Kelly Heath also finished in double figures scoring with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Although the College was edged by Northeastern, 65-64, in its last contest, James earned her first double-double of the season. The Pipersville, Pa., native finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds and three steals. Kaylor also played well and registered a game-high 18 points to go with eight boards.

Kaylor leads the Tribe in scoring (15.0 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg), ranking third in the Colonial Athletic Association in both categories. Additionally, she has matched or exceeded her season scoring average in four of the last five games. Sophomore Tiffany Benson ranks second in the conference with 1.60 bpg, while junior Courtney Portell is third in the league with 2.57 made three-pointers per game. With 59 made three-pointers this season, Portell needs just five more to break the single-season school record established by Yolanda Settles (63) during the 1993-94 season.

One of the best long-range shooting teams in the CAA, the Tribe ranks third in the league with 6.04 made three-pointers per contest.

Drexel enters Thursday’s game with a 14-10 record overall and a 9-4 mark in league play. Currently tied for third in the CAA standings, DU is coming off a 74-67 win against second-place James Madison on Sunday. Gabriela Marginean leads the team in scoring (18.5 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg). As a team, Drexel leads the league in three-pointers made per game (7.04) and long-range shooting percentage (.375).

The Tribe owns a 9-7 mark against Drexel in the all-time series. Kaylor has posted a number of impressive performances against the Dragons throughout her career, averaging 17.3 ppg on 53.4 percent shooting with 7.8 rpg in eight games. Additionally, she has connected on 55.6 percent (10-of-18) of her attempts from beyond the arc.
