Men’s Golf Finishes Ninth at Rice Intercollegiate

HOUSTON, TEXAS - William and Mary’s men’s golf team followed the strong play of its juniors Tuesday in the final round of the Rice Intercollegiate, moving up the team standings to finish ninth in the 12-team event. Baylor won the event with a 54-hole score of 878 (14-over), while Lousiana Tech’s Amrith de Soysa claimed the individual medal by a single stroke with his one-over 217.

Junior Brent Paladino (Kensington, Conn.) shook off the rust of the winter lay-off with an opening round 78, but quickly got back down to business with rounds of 73 and 72 to finish the tournament in a tie for 18th, six shots behind de Soysa. Sophomore Conor O’Brien (Weatogue, Conn.) was second for the Tribe, bouncing back from a first-round 1 to shoot 71-75 and move up to stand alone in 31st. Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.) finished in a tie for 38th after improving his score in every round, 79-78-73. One shot back was senior Jonas Miller (Dallas, Texas), who finished tied for 40th after opening with 71-79. Freshman Brandon Parker (Auburn, Mass.) rounded out the team’s effort in a tie for 45th, opening with a collegiate-best 75 and finishing with 77 in the third round.

William and Mary now has two weeks off before traveling to Buies Creek, North Carolina March 3-4 for the Fighting Camel Classic, hosted by Campbell University.
