W&M Remains No. 16 in ITA Rankings

Williamsburg - For the second straight week, the William and Mary women’s tennis team garnered the No. 16 spot in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Rankings, released on Feb. 20. The College has spent all five weeks ranked among the national top 20. W&M also had a pair of doubles teams in the national top 26, while senior Megan Moulton-Levy moved back into the national top-10 in singles.

W&M tallied a trio of wins over the last week to run its winning streak to four matches in improving to 8-3 on the year. The College toughed out a 4-3 win over then-No. 24 Arkansas with a quartet of singles victories, before notching 7-0 sweeps of then-No. 64 Colorado and Harvard.

After starting the spring at No. 12, Moulton-Levy shot back into the top 10, garnering the No. 8 national ranking. The four-time Tribe All-American owns a 17-4 singles mark this season with all four defeats coming to players ranked in the top five, including three of those four matches going to third sets. Moulton-Levy has been on a tear as of late, winning eight of her last nine matches.

The duo of sophomore Ragini Acharya and junior Katarina Zoricic holds down the No. 25 spot in the national rankings after compiling an 8-4 mark during the fall season. Zoricic and Moulton-Levy jumped 20 spots in the national doubles rankings to No. 26. The duo has won eight of its last nine matches, including a win over the No. 3-ranked Notre Dame team of Brook Buck and Kelcy Tefft. The 2007 NCAA Doubles runners up are 16-5 overall on the season.

The Tribe will begin a difficult stretch, facing six top-33 teams over the next two weeks. W&M will embark on a three-match road trip to Texas, beginning on Friday, Feb. 22, against No. 26 Texas. The College will travel to No. 8 Baylor on Saturday, Feb. 23, before wrapping up the trip to the Lone Star State against No. 33 TCU on Feb. 24.

The following week, the Green and Gold will battle a trio of top-15 teams in California. The College will meet No. 3 Stanford on Tuesday, March 4, before traveling to No. 11 California on Wednesday, March 5. The Tribe will complete the difficult stretch of road matches at No. 14 Fresno State on Friday, March 7.
