Tribe Continues Ascent in ITA National Rankings

Alex Cojanu and Keziel Juneau garnered the No. 16 spot in the doubles rankings.

Williamsburg - The William and Mary men’s tennis team continued its ascent in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Rankings, moving up another three spots in No. 40 in the poll released on Feb. 20. The Tribe garnered its second top-40 ranking of the season after coming in at a season-high No. 38 on Jan. 29. The W&M doubles tandem of senior Alex Cojanu and sophomore Keziel Juneau jumped 17 spots in the doubles rankings to garner the No. 16 slot.

W&M went 2-1 last week with its lone loss coming in a tight battle with No. 24 Rice. The Tribe gave the Owls all they would handle as the tilt came down to a trio of three-set singles matches. W&M improved to 11-4 on the year and a perfect 4-0 in CAA play with wins over then-No. 72 and defending conference champion Georgia State, 5-2, and James Madison, 7-0.

Cojanu and Juneau began the spring season ranked No. 33 in the national doubles rankings, before jumping into the national top-20. The pair is currently 9-7 overall on the year, including five wins at the No. 1 doubles position.

The Tribe will have a week off before hitting the road for a trio of matches over the College’s Spring Break. W&M will trek to Boise, Idaho for a pair of matches, facing No. 66 Minnesota on Sunday, March 2, before battling No. 28 Boise State on Monday, March 3. The Green and Gold will wrap up the trip at No. 3 Georgia on Wednesday, March 5.
