Tribe Set to Play at UNC Wilmington on Sunday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary women’s basketball team will return to action when it plays at UNC Wilmington on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Sunday’s contest will mark the second meeting between the teams this season, as the Tribe (11-15, 5-9) earned a 72-62 victory earlier this season in Williamsburg on Jan. 31. Sophomore Kelly Heath came up big in the win, recording a career-high 25 points. Senior Devin James also played well and finished with 13 points and three steals, while freshman Katherine DeHenzel contributed 10 points and six assists. Senior Kyra Kaylor was the game’s leading rebounder with 14 boards.

Kaylor continues to lead the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.8 rpg), ranking among the league’s top five in both categories. Sophomore Tiffany Benson ranks second in the conference with 1.58 bpg, while junior Courtney Portell is third with 2.54 made three-pointers per game. Portell needs just three more three-pointers to break the single-season school record established by Yolanda Settles in 1993-94.

As a team, the College ranks third in the conference with 5.92 made three-pointers per game. W&M also ranks among the league’s best in steals (11.23 spg) and rebounding (38.7 rpg).

UNCW enters Sunday’s contest on a five-game winning streak and has a 16-9 record overall and a 7-7 mark in league play. Brittany Blackwell leads the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg). As a team, UNCW ranks second in the CAA with a field goal percentage of .433.

In a series that dates back to 1982, the Tribe holds a 28-21 advantage against UNC Wilmington. During the early '90s, W&M earned 11 consecutive victories against the Seahawks.
