Chris McIntosh Breaks Freshman Record at 200m

BLACKSBURG, VA - The men’s track and field team competed at the Virginia Tech Challenge this evening, coming away with a freshman record and an IC4A qualification through four events of competition.

Freshman Chris McIntosh (Owings Mill, Md.) ran 23.17 in the 200m dash, breaking Justin Benabdallah’s ’06 freshman record of 23.50 set in 2003. Sophomore Ben Massam (Chatham, N.J.) qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 5,000m, timing 14:42.44 for fifth place.

Sophomore Brandon Oliver (Richmond, Va.) set a new personal-best in the weight throw, breaking the 50-foot barrier for the first time with throw of 51' 0.25". He becomes only the 10th Tribe athlete to ever throw for more than 50 feet with the 35-lbs weight.

The Virginia Tech Challenge concludes tomorrow.
