Emily Anderson Sets Indoor Mile Record, Qualifies for NCAAs

BLACKSBURG, VA - Another day, another pair of school records for the William and Mary women’s track and field team at the Virginia Tech Challenge.

Complete Results

Sophomore Emily Anderson (Golf, Ill.) won the mile with an NCAA-provisional qualifying mark of 4:43.33, over 15 seconds clear of the rest of the field. Her time broke Emily Furia’s ’01 indoor school record of 4:46.16 set in 2001, and is second in school history behind only Furia’s outdoor record of 4:41.06, also set in 2001. Anderson, also a provisional-qualifier at 3,000m, currently rank 17th in the mile nationally.

The 4x400m relay team of Dana Harvey (Mechanicsville, Va.), Allie Lewis (Roanoke, Va.), Anderson, and Ashley Madonick (Seaside Park, N.J.) ran 3:51.12 for seventh place, crushing the school indoor record by three seconds and beating the ECAC-qualifying standard.

William and Mary has one more shot at earning ECAC-qualifying marks when it travels to George Mason next Sunday, March 2, for the Mason Last Chance Invitational.
