Tribe Finishes Second in Tri-Meet at Springfield

Springfield, Mass. - One day removed from posting a team-season best score, the College of William and Mary’s men’s gymnastics squad put together another solid afternoon in the gym, placing second with a solid team score of 338.65 in a three-team event hosted on the Springfield College campus Sunday.

The College was just edged out on the afternoon by 13th-ranked University of Illinois-Chicago (340.30), while Springfield College finished third with a team-score of 327.00. William and Mary’s record moved to 4-3 on the season. The Tribe’s 338.65 team-total was just three-points shy of the squad’s season-best mark of 341.15 recorded yesterday in a dual meet win over Massa-chusetts Institute of Technology.

Freshman Alex Egerter (Sacramento, Calif.) was the only Tribe gymnast to claim an individual event title on the after-noon, as he established his personal career best in taking the gold on the vault event with a mark of 15.650. The performance capped off what was a standout weekend for the freshman, as he claimed a pair of event titles for the Tribe in Saturday’s win at MIT. Egerter also placed fourth on the high bar on Sunday, posting a score of 14.20.

Junior James Prim (Hendersonville, N.C.) also had his second-straight solid afternoon, as he claimed a pair of third-place finishes on the pommel horse (14.10) and still rings (14.650), respectively. This effort was one-day removed from his leading the squad with a pair of first-place finishes in Saturday’s meet at MIT.

Senior tri-captain Dave Locke (Natick, Mass.) and junior Richard Pearson (Baton Rouge, La.) each recorded silver fin-ishes, on the floor exercise (14.80) and pommel horse (14.25), respectively.

The Tribe will be back in action next weekend, as the squad will travel to Annapolis on Friday evening for a dual meet against Navy. Sunday, the College will tangle with another service academy, as the team will host Army for a dual meet on Sun-day in Kaplan Arena. The event is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
