Four Head to the Championship Heat

FAIRFAX, VA - William and Mary’s women’s swimming and diving team advanced 11 athletes to Friday night’s finals in five events at the CAA Championships, capturing four berths in the championship finals and seven in the consolation heats. Towson sent 10 to the championship finals to extend their lead to 384-251 over UNC Wilmington, with William and Mary in fourth with 233 points.
Friday's Preliminary Results
In the 200 free, sophomores Katie Radloff (Arlington, Va.) and Lindsay Guers (Orwigsburg, Pa.) qualified for the championship heat as the second and fourth seeds, respectively. Radloff timed 1:50.59 to win her heat, with Guers touching the wall in 1:51.27. Senior Christina Monsees (Brewster, N.Y.) and junior Marina Falcone (Potomac, Md.) tied for the fourth seed in the consolation finals, with each woman finishing in 1:53.25. Monsees’ effort was a personal-best, and solidifies her position as the sixth-fastest swimmer in school history.
Senior captain Meredith David (Somerdale, N.J.) is the third seed in the championship heat of the 100 back after timing 57.51 in the preliminaries. Sophomore Laura Herrmann (Fairfax Station, Va.) swam a personal-best 59.51 to advance as the sixth-seed in the consolation heat. Her time improves her position at ninth on the College’s all-time top performer’s list.
Junior Whitney Pezza (Warrenton, Va.) is the sixth seed in the championship finals of the 100 fly after swimming 56.49 seconds, just three-hundredths of a second behind her own school record. Freshman Emily Burns (Snellville, Ga.) just missed advancing in the event, finishing 19th overall with a personal-record time of 58.59 to become the ninth-fastest swimmer in school history. In the 100 breast, freshman Carolyn Royce (Midlothian, Va.) swam 1:07.26 to advance to the consolation finals as the sixth seed.
The Tribe advanced three women to the consolation heat of the 400 IM, led by sophomore Courtney Alles (Manassas Park, Va.), who earned the third seed with a time of 4:34.36. Classmate Suzanne Figuers (Cary, N.C.) is the fifth seed with a time of 4:36.82, and freshman Kristin Fimian (Oakton, Va.) is the eighth seed after timing a career-best 4:38.23 to win her preliminary heat.
The finals of all five events, plus the finals of the 1-Meter Diving and the 200 free relay, will take place this evening starting at 6 p.m.
