W&M Picks Up Four ECAC Qualifications at Mason Last Chance

FAIRFAX, VA - William and Mary’s women’s track and field team had a momentous Sunday at the Mason Last Chance, picking up four ECAC qualifications for later in this week.

Senior Erin Gnass (Brentwood, Tenn.) earned her first ECAC berth with an eight-inch personal record in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 11’ 9.75”. The performance moves her past Emily Greene for third all-time at the College. Classmate Nicole Bost (Mechanicsville, Va.) finished fourth in the day’s competition after clearing 10’ 9.75”.

Senior Allie Lewis (Roanoke, Va.) led three qualifiers in winning the 1,000m run with a near-personal-best time of2:52.86. Sophomore Kelly McElroy (Wyomissing, Pa.) took second and earned her first ECAC bid with a career-best time of 2:55.05, ranking seventh on the College’s all-time top-performers list. Classmate Ariel Burbey (Blacksburg, Va.) was third in 2:57.22, earning her first individual ECAC berth after running on qualifying relays each of the last two years. Sophomore Keely Murphy (Owings, Md.) was fourth in the race, timing 3:02.10.

Also of note, junior Ashley Madonick (Seaside Park, N.J.) was just behind ECAC-qualifying pace in winning the 500m dash with a career-best time of 1:16.91 (1:16.00 qualifies). She moved up the Tribe’s performer’s list to eighth-best in school history. Sophomore Dana Harvey (Mechanicsville, Va.) was second in 1:18.21, moving onto the College’s all-time top-10 list at 10th. Sophomore Carly Morse (Sumerduck, Va.) was barely two inches away from qualifying for ECACs in the shot put, putting the shot a career-best 44’ 5.25” to take second. Her performance solidifies her position as the sixth-best thrower in school history.

William and Mary’s qualifiers will compete at the ECAC Championships this weekend, March 7-8, at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
