Tribe to Host VCU for Senior Night on Thursday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary women’s basketball team will close out its regular-season slate when it hosts Virginia Commonwealth University for Senior Night on Thursday at 7 p.m. It will mark the final home game for seniors Kyra Kaylor and Devin James, two of the most outstanding players in the program’s history.

During their careers, James and Kaylor helped W&M achieve the program’s first back-to-back winning seasons as a Division-I program. Additionally, the duo was instrumental in helping the College earn 19 victories last season, the second-best total in school history. Individually, Kaylor is the school record holder for career points, rebounds, games played, free throws made, free throws attempted and defensive rebounds. Additionally, she ranks among the program’s top 10 in eight other categories. James ranks second all-time in career steals and games played, while she is among the top 10 in 10 additional categories.

The Tribe (13-16, 7-10) enters the regular-season finale having won two of its last three games and is in a three-way tie for sixth place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings.

Sophomore Tiffany Benson has played incredibly well down the stretch this season, averaging 19.7 ppg, 10.7 rpg and 4.0 bpg during the last three games. Additionally, the Virginia Beach native is shooting 64.9 percent (24-of-37) from the field during the stretch. Defensively, freshman Katherine DeHenzel has also played well recently, averaging 4.6 spg during the last five contests.

Kaylor leads the team with 14.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg, ranking among the conference’s top five in both categories. Benson is tied for the league lead with 1.83 bpg, while James ranks third in the CAA with 2.76 spg.

As a team, the College ranks third in the conference in steals (11.34 spg) and three-pointers made per game (5.79). Additionally, W&M is fourth in rebounding (38.9 rpg) and blocks (3.17 bpg).
