William and Mary Advances Two to Finals at the IC4A Championships

David Groff Sets Personal-Best at 1,000m

BOSTON, MASS - William and Mary advanced its two participants in the 1,000m to tomorrow’s finals at the IC4A Championships on Saturday. At the end of day one, Liberty leads the team race with 20 points. W&M has not yet received any points.

Junior David Groff (Centreville, Va.) ran a career-best 2:25.08 in the preliminaries of the 1,000m run to advance to Sunday’s finals as the race’s fourth seed. His performance moves him up the College’s all-time top performer’s chart, where Groff now ranks as the fifth-fastest runner in school history. Also advancing to the finals of the 1,000m with a personal-best effort was sophomore Cabell Rosanelli (Richmond, Va.) who is the ninth seed after running 2:27.44.

Senior Ian Fitzgerald (Glenshaw, Pa.) just missed All-East honors in the 3,000m, taking ninth in a career-best 8:11.24 (top eight are All-East). His time makes him the eighth-fastest runner in school history. Sophomore Drew Midland (Virginia Beach, Va.) also ran a personal-best, timing 8:20.99 for 19th.

In the pole vault, sophomore Kiernan Lofland (Crozier, Va.) tied for 13th after clearing the bar at 15’ 5”, and in the 800m, junior Ryan Jones (Harrisburg, Pa.) ran 1:54.50 for 22nd.

The IC4A Championships conclude tomorrow.
