Ashleigh Akens Rabe Honored as a CAA Legend

NEWARK, Del. - Former William and Mary women’s basketball player Ashleigh Akens Rabe (1990-94) was honored as the Tribe’s 2008 Colonial Athletic Association Legend at the conference’s awards banquet on Wednesday evening in Newark, Del.

One of the greatest players in the program’s history, Akens was a three-time All-CAA honoree and currently ranks among W&M’s top 10 in eight career categories. During her illustrious career, she totaled 1,372 points and 918 rebounds and is one of just two players in school history to register more than 1,300 points and 900 boards.

Akens led the Green and Gold in scoring and rebounding during her final three seasons. Additionally, she averaged a double-double as a senior with 16.3 ppg and 10.5 rpg. She also finished her career with a shooting percentage of .545.

The Marietta, Ga., native still holds the W&M single-season record for free throws attempted (205), and her shooting percentage of .573 during the 1991-92 season is the second-best mark in school history. She also holds the single-game school record for rebounds (21), which she accomplished twice, and tallied the program’s second-best single-game point total with 33 against San Francisco on Feb. 5, 1992.
