Tribe Jumps Five Spots in National Rankings

Williamsburg - Following an upset victory of then-No. 46 Oklahoma to close out the 2008 Blue Gray Classic, the William and Mary men’s tennis team jumped five spots in the ITA National Rankings to garner in the No. 55 slot in the poll released on March 18. W&M upped its ledger to 12-9 on the year following its 4-2 victory over the Sooners. The Tribe doubles team of senior Alex Cojanu and sophomore Keziel Juneau continued its run in the national doubles standings.

Cojanu and Juneau garnered the No. 39 spot in the ITA Doubles Rankings. The duo is 10-8 on the season with a trio of wins over nationally ranked foes.

In its victory over Oklahoma, the Tribe took the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. At the top pairs’ position, the team of Cojanu and junior Dominic Pagon upset the then-No. 28-ranked Oklahoma pair of Daescu and Chavarria to clinch the doubles point. The squad of senior Kavi Sud and freshman Sebastien Vidal continued to roll with an easy win at the No. 3 spot to run its record to 12-2. In singles, junior Marwan Ramadan, Juneau and Vidal all tallied three-set victories at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 positions, respectively, to clinch the win for the College. W&M also dropped decisions to then-No. 49 N.C. State and No. 8 Tulsa during the 2008 Blue Gray Classic.

The Tribe will have two weeks off before returning to action with No. 27 VCU. W&M will put its perfect 4-0 CAA ledger on the line in the contest slated for a 3 p.m. on Friday, March 28, in Richmond.
