Parker Ties for Fifth at First Market Bank Intercollegiate

WILLIAMSBURG - When the dust settled after 37 holes on Kingsmill’s famed River Course, Francis Marion University walked away with the team trophy at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate by seven strokes, and Detroit’s Mark Sommerfield sank a birdie on the first playoff hole to claim the individual medal. The William and Mary men’s golf team finished 13th after matching team-rounds of 302-302.

Competing as an individual, freshman Brandon Parker (Auburn, Mass.) had the best round of his collegiate career on Tuesday, shooting an even-par 71 to finish the tournament tied for fifth at +1 (143). Sophomore Conor O’Brien (Weatogue, Conn.) paired his first-round 74 with another to finish tied for 25th, and junior Doug Hurson (Bethesda, Md.) posted the biggest turn-around of the entire tournament, shooting 69 (-2) after opening with an 81 on Monday. Seniors Jimmy Femino (Manassas, Va.) and Jonas Miller (Dallas, Texas) shot 80 and 79, respectively, to round out the team’s scoring effort in a tie for 59th at 153 (+11). Competing as individuals, senior Joel St. Laurent (Nashua, N.H.) improved a stroke from the first round to shoot 81, and sophomore Andy Roach (Vienna, Va.) closed his tournament with an 88.

William and Mary returns to action April 4-5, with the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, West Virginia.
