Tribe Earns Trio of CAA Weekly Honors

Richmond, Va. - The No. 55 William and Mary men’s tennis team garnered a trio weekly Colonial Athletic Association accolades for competition during the early part of March, the league announced on March 20. W&M swept the awards for the week ending March 9 as junior Marwan Ramadan received the CAA Singles Player of the week accolade and the Tribe doubles team of senior Kavi Sud and freshman Sebastien Vidal earned the league’s doubles team of the week. For the week of March 16, the Tribe tandem of senior Alex Cojanu and junior Dominic Pagon was honored with the CAA Doubles Team of the Week distinction.

Ramadan earned the accolade after going 2-1 in three matches against nationally ranked opponents during the week of March 9. He rallied past Pierre Dumas of No. 67 Minnesota, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and edged Steve Robertson of No. 41 Boise State, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. His only loss of the week came to No. 61 Javier Garrapiz of third-ranked Georgia at No. 3 singles. Ramadan leads the Tribe with 19 wins overall and 13 victories during the dual-match portion of the schedule.

The Tribe doubles team of Sud and Vidal earned CAA doubles team of the week honors after going 3-0 in matches against nationally ranked teams. The duo helped W&M win the doubles point with an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles ver-sus No. 67 Minnesota and also had wins at the No. 3 slot against No. 41 Boise State and No. 3 Georgia during the week. The pair is 12-2 overall on the year and 8-2 in dual match competition.

Most recently, the Green and Gold duo of Cojanu and Pagon were named CAA doubles team of the week for March 16 after an upset victory at the Blue Gray Classic. The duo knocked off 28th-ranked Andrei Daescu and Federico Chavar-ria of Oklahoma to help the College clinch the doubles point in a 4-2 win over No. 46 Oklahoma on March 15. It marks the fourth time that Cojanu has earned the league’s doubles team of the week honors and the first career award for Pa-gon.

The Tribe will return to action when it puts it perfect 4-0 CAA record on the line at No. 27 VCU. The match is slated for a 3 p.m. start time on Friday, March 28, in Richmond, Va.
