Tribe to Play at VMI on Tuesday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William and Mary baseball team will return to action when it plays at Virginia Military Institute on Tuesday at 7 p.m. It will mark the second meeting between the teams this season, as the Tribe (16-8, 7-5 CAA) earned a 12-3 victory against the Keydets (8-12, 3-0 Big South) at Plumeri Park on March 12.

In the previous meeting, senior Tim Park went 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Senior Greg Maliniak also played well and went 3-for-5 with a home run two RBI and two runs scored. Junior Rob Nickle hit a home run and had three RBI, while sophomore Chris Jensen drove in a pair of runs.

As a team, the College leads the Colonial Athletic Association in batting average (.346), slugging percentage (.547), on-base percentage (.422), runs scored (198), hits (284), RBI (177), doubles (65), total bases (449) and stolen bases (46).

Individually, junior Mike Sheridan leads the team and the conference in batting average (.458), runs scored (32), hits (44), RBI (36) and total bases (75). Additionally, the Washington, D.C., native ranks among the league’s top five in slugging percentage (.781) and on-base percentage (.495).

VMI enters Tuesday’s contest with a four-game winning streak and has an 8-12 record overall. During the weekend, the Keydets opened their conference slate with a three-game sweep at High Point. Tanner Biagini leads the team with a .418 batting average and three home runs, while Mike Roberts is hitting .370.

W&M is 9-3 in non-conference games this season.
