Alex Heacock Qualifies for IC4A Championships at Richmond

RICHMOND, VA - William and Mary junior Alex Heacock (Lititz, Pa.) got his season off to fast start Saturday at the Fred Hardy Invitational, qualifying for the IC4A Championships in his first appearance of the year.

Heacock, the defending CAA Champion, took second in the javelin with a throw of 194’ 10”, easily surpassing the qualifying standard by more than four feet. Sticking with the throws, sophomore Dan Klatzkin (Gaithersburg, Md.) launched the discus a personal-record 145’ 1” to finish second, with senior Tom Mulcahy (Staunton, Va.) close behind in third with a throw of 141’.

On the track, sophomore Patterson Wilhelm (Lynchburg, Va.) was just off of IC4A-qualifying pace in the 1,500m run, winning the event in 3:52.79. Senior Karl Lang (Oak Hill, Va.) was second in 3:54.09, while sophomores Ben Massam (Chatham, N.J.) and Charlie Swartz (Manassas, Va.) finished fourth and fifth in 3:55.41 and 3:56.69, respectively. Also claiming a top-five showing was the 4x100m relay team of Chris McIntosh (Owings Mill, Md.), Florian Cords (Williamsburg, Va.), Marty Ross (Brentwood, Tenn.), and David Blitzer (Haworth, N.J.), who finished fifth in 45.50 seconds.

William and Mary returns home next weekend, April 4-5, to host the 43rd Annual Colonial Relays. Running and jumping events will be held inside Zable Stadium, while throwing events will be held at the Stimson Throwing Events Area, northwest of the stadium by Fraternity Row.
